About Myself
My name is Exiel Li. I’ve been practicing HEMA for six years and running the club Vor & Nach Society of HEMA for two years.I got my HEMA Alliance Instructor Certification in 2016, and recently I was invited to Wuhan to teach a seminar in China. I’m also the instructor in a college HEMA club called Fu Jen University European Medieval Swordsmanship (Or FJUEMS) for over five years. And all of these is happening in Taiwan, a small country on the west rim of the Pacific Ocean. As a tropical island locating on the junction of many cultures, people here are very open to new ideas.
So, given the experience I have, here I want to talk about my own view of learning HEMA and some aspects of promoting HEMA in Taiwan. Some similar situations may also apply in China. And before I begin, I’d like to be clear that although I have been observing the development of HEMA in Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, I can’t speak for these countries because I don’t have any practical experience promoting HEMA there.
